Why I decided to Start Blogging

I never planned on getting a blog. I never really understood the purpose in it and never really wanted one. However, the more I have come to like writing personally, and the more I have begun to read the blogs of writers, speakers, and leaders (such as Donald Miller, Michael Hyatt, John C. Maxwell), I have started to see a purpose in blogging. I have learned much from these men’s blogs. Their blogs have encouraged my faith and life drastically, and I read them regularly. I have included at the bottom of this page a link to their blogs. I think you might find them helpful as well.

So why am I starting my own blog? For a couple reasons:

(1) I hope that I can use this blog to share my stories, experiences, realizations, and life lessons with you that will point you towards the author of life – Jesus Christ. If my life is all about me, then it is pointless. If my life points to the One who gives life to all people and all things (1 Timothy 6:13; Acts 17:25) and points others to know Him more, then I see a noble purpose in that. The Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 10:31, “Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” I don’t desire or intend to use this blog to glorify myself or boast about myself. I do intend to use this blog to glorify and boast about Jesus. And that includes helping others out by pointing them to other resources, writers, and things that may encourage their faith and life. So, for example, if there is a speaker coming to the Chicago land area or a concert that I think might encourage you, then I will post about it. If I read a blog post that I find encouraging and edifying, then I will post a link so you can read about it.

(2) Someday, I’d like to write books. I have many different ideas about what I’d write about, and I have already started the long process. Since I hope to write a books someday, I see blogging as a valuable means of starting that process. Just as an athletes trains for the games, so blogging is a means of training for the game – writing a book. I also just really enjoy writing (I’m not really sure why), so that also plays into this somehow.

I plan on blogging regularly over the summer, hopefully 2-3 times a week if possible. There are many stories that have occurred in my life that I’d like to share with you. I believe there is huge lessons and great significance in sharing stories with each other. We can all learn a lot from each other’s stories.

I hope you find this blog enjoyable. Please send me your comments, ideas, topics you’d like me to write about, and other things of the sort. May the God of grace and peace and love be with you.
